    About THE ARTIST, ELWIN VAN DER KOLK:
    Biologist and nature painter Elwin van der Kolk (b. 1972), biologist and nature painter, has been fascinated by the nature around him from an early age. He spent much of his youth bird-watching and drawing birds. Now he still does exactly the same, although his colored pencils were exchanged for acrylic paint and brushes. Meanwhile, he can call himself one of the best-known bird artists in the Netherlands and makes illustrations for numerous publications of o.a. Vogelbescherming, SOVON and KNNV publishers. Illustrations In 2006 he illustrated the Vogelontdekgids, in 2009 Tjielp and in 2012 Kromme beavels en scherpe klauwen. These books were written by Nico de Haan. Publisher Atlas Contact has for several years published a wonderful series of bird books with monographs of different species of birds. The books in the bird series are, almost without exception, well worth reading and very beautifully designed with appropriate illustration by Elwin on the cover. In 2017 the Pocket Guide to Birds of the Netherlands and Belgium was published, containing more than 1,200 illustrations. Currently Elwin provides a column in the magazine Vogels of Vogelbescherming Nederland.
